A dive master is a professional who enables others to go underwater by leading recreational and organised dives. Divers with supervisory or guide responsibilities are required to have a dive master qualification in many countries. A job as a divemaster isn't for everyone. If you have the right qualifications you can become a diving master. Here are some benefits to becoming a divemaster.

A job description for a dive master

What is the job of a divemaster? A variety of tasks are involved, such as supervising customers, reviewing the risks of diving and delivering briefings to guide groups through a dive. Divers can also have a variety of job descriptions. A dive master may be responsible for several different aspects of a dive shop, including the general operation and social media presence.

Scuba instructors can teach and supervise divers in open water and swimming pools. They can also organize and supervise activities other than training such as navigation. Open water instructors will lead students on the tour portion of the dives. These include the navigation exercise, and the surface swim portion. Dive instructors may also be responsible for directing certified divers through scuba review courses. Diver instructors have different legal responsibilities depending on where they live. However, in some countries, the diving instructor is exempt from legal responsibility when the dive instructor signs a waiver.

Certification requirements

A course is required to become a competent Divemaster. Divemaster training covers topics like setting up a site, managing divers, conducting diver flows, and finding dive flow. Additionally, candidates must have at least 60 logged dives. Divemasters can assist novice divers with theory and skills, as well as assisting instructors during dive courses.

Dive masters need to pass two parts of the exam in addition to taking classes. Each part must be scored at least 75% to pass the exam. Candidates will be using the PADI Instructor Handbook and the eRDPML for the exam. Students are required to create an emergency response plan and practice five waterskills drills. The total scores must not exceed fifteen. The course must be completed before certification can be granted to divemasters.

Internship requirements

There are many internships available to help you become a divemaster. You have the option to help set up dive sites or assist with other PADI courses, depending on what you prefer. Your assistance may be needed for skill circuits. However, the internship will have a set pattern. An average internship lasts eight weeks. In that time you could become an Advanced Open Water Diver. After four to 6 weeks of training you can become an Advanced Open Water Diver or Divemaster.

There may be an opportunity to do a free Dive master internship, in addition to the paid internships. Even though free internships may not be ideal, they will allow you to get valuable advice and study from a Divemaster. Your internship may include the opportunity to obtain manuals and certification as well as equipment. Before enrolling for any Divemaster program, you should be aware of the requirements.
